There are plenty of ways to lose weight on a budget, as these four examples show.

The Low-Cost Way To Lose Weight: 4 Ways To Make It Possible on a Budget

You should do:

1. Make your own healthy snacks

Instead of stopping at the vending machine for a quick snack, stop at the supermarket and get some healthy snacks from the produce department.

Not only are these healthy and low cost, but they're also cheaper and can save you a lot of money.

These are some of my favorite inexpensive snacks:

Make fruit leathers.  My daughter's school has a parent-teacher association that makes fruit leather every year for the PTO's bake sale. Each item is $1.

If you buy the snack mix from your grocery store for about $2.50, you can make your own fruit leathers for about $0.60 per pouch.

Here's how:  Dump the fruit into a bowl. Add some water and mix it together with a fork or stick it in your hands. Let the mixture dry for a couple of days in the fridge.

2. Buy a cheap workout video

A little investment in the fitness business can go a long way, and with that in mind, check out these cheapest options:

Looking for a quick-start workout?

Look into the We Work Out app: it's a fitness instructor you work with via your phone. It's $5/month, and they will upload your workouts.

Plus, you can modify the moves as you go.

It's pretty easy to follow and, if you're on a budget, you can get a lot of bang for your buck.

Do you have a couch-potato friend? How about helping them reach their health goals with a $ 20-month unlimited workout plan?

This is exactly the type of thing that could help you make the leap into healthier living. There are a ton of programs out there, from video to online, that are extremely affordable, and easy to use.

3. Join a gym on a membership plan

If you're feeling strapped financially, joining a gym is probably the best way to shed those extra pounds.

Even at big box gyms, you can often find a membership plan that works for you.  One that we highly recommend is the Anytime Fitness membership plan.

This plan, which costs just $49 a month, has unlimited fitness classes, free day passes, and no long-term contracts or contracts in which you have to pay a big, upfront fee.

The gym also offers a six-day-a-week shuttle bus service that takes members to their locations, free cardio equipment, full access to all its amenities, and a worry-free user agreement.

4. Pick up a healthy cookbook

There are plenty of ways to buy healthy food on a budget that is really cheap.

You just have to be smart.

One of the cheapest and easiest ways to get good, nutritious food for your diet on a budget is to shop at places like Trader Joe's, where you can find a huge variety of nutritious foods for around $4 to $8 a box. Or, go to Aldi, where you can pick up packaged foods for around $1 a box.

Both stores don't have the best choices – and often the quality is low – but they are good places to get inexpensive snacks and ready-to-eat meals.

Having a variety of healthy snacks at your fingertips is crucial, especially if you are on a budget.

If you don't have a membership to a gym, you might be able to use a store membership plan to get a good gym-like workout at home.
